Islamabad has been ranked 83rd out of 401 cities in the latest global safety index. The capital sits ahead of several major world cities, including London, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow and Istanbul. Capital police shared the ranking on Tuesday.
Police also reported strong results in crime control this year. They achieved a 100% detection rate in all homicide cases registered in Islamabad. Every accused in these cases was arrested. Property crime fell by 27% compared to 2025, with 1,499 fewer incidents. Robbery, dacoity, murder and vehicle theft all showed clear declines.
To improve security further, police set up specialised units such as SWAT, Delta Force, a Margalla Trail Patrol Unit, a K-9 explosives team and a Special Protection Unit for Chinese nationals. Night patrols and city watchers were increased in commercial areas. The Safe City system was also upgraded with AI tools and better surveillance.
These steps have helped strengthen public safety and improved Islamabad’s standing among cities worldwide.
