Authorities in Islamabad have auctioned six temporary cattle markets ahead of Eid al-Adha, generating a total of Rs. 349.5 million. This marks a sharp increase of around 120 percent compared to last year, showing strong demand for organized livestock trading spaces.
The highest bid was recorded for the Sector I-12 market, which reached Rs. 200.1 million alone. Other key locations included Sangjani, Zia Mosque area, Sultana Foundation, Japan Road, and Bhara Kahu. Officials confirmed that 104 bidders took part in the auction process, which was carried out under strict transparency rules.
Cattle markets play an important role before Eid, as thousands of people visit these sites to buy animals for sacrifice. In recent years, authorities have focused on better management to avoid overcrowding, illegal setups, and poor facilities.
This year, all approved markets will operate through a cashless payment system. This step is aimed at improving financial tracking, reducing fraud, and making transactions easier for both buyers and sellers. Monitoring teams have also been deployed to ensure proper cleanliness, security, and animal welfare standards.
Officials say these measures will help provide a safer and more organized experience for citizens while supporting economic activity during the festive season.
