Pakistan suffered a double blow following their defeat to Bangladesh in the opening Test in Dhaka, as the side was also penalized by the International Cricket Council for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match.
The ICC confirmed that Pakistan had been found eight overs short of the required target after time allowances were taken into account by match officials. As a result, the team was fined 40 percent of their match fees under ICC regulations, which impose a five percent fine for every over not completed within the allotted time.
Alongside the financial penalty, Pakistan was docked eight points in the World Test Championship standings, with one point deducted for each over short. The punishment has further damaged Pakistan’s position in the WTC table at a time when every point is crucial in the race for qualification to the final.
Match referee Jeff Crowe handed down the sanctions, while Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted the offence and the proposed penalties without requesting a formal hearing.
The setback came shortly after Bangladesh secured a memorable 104-run victory over Pakistan in Dhaka. The win was especially significant for Bangladesh as it marked their first-ever home Test triumph against Pakistan, creating a historic moment for the hosts while adding to Pakistan’s disappointing outing in the series opener.
