Pakistan is set to host the 14th South Asian Games from April 4 to 11 next year, with preparations getting underway for one of the region’s biggest multi-sport events.
More than 6,000 athletes and officials are expected to take part in competitions across 28 sports, bringing together sporting talent from countries across South Asia. Events are planned for venues in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The government has approved dedicated committees along with the appointment of a national coordinator to oversee preparations for the games.
Authorities are expected to focus on upgrading and preparing sporting venues, accommodation, transportation, security and other essential arrangements ahead of the event.
The hosting of the South Asian Games is expected to provide Pakistani athletes with an opportunity to compete on home soil while giving the country a chance to showcase its sporting infrastructure and hospitality to regional visitors.
With preparations now in progress, authorities are working toward ensuring that venues and supporting facilities are ready on schedule for the arrival of athletes, officials and spectators.
