The government has rejected reports claiming that the minimum voting age in Pakistan would be increased from 18 to 25 under a proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment. Officials clarified that no such proposal is under consideration and termed the circulating claims as misleading and baseless. They stressed that the right to vote at the age of 18 remains protected under the Constitution and there are currently no plans to alter it.
The clarification came after widespread debate on social media and political circles following speculation about possible electoral reforms. Government representatives said misinformation had created unnecessary confusion among the public, particularly young voters. Political analysts noted that any attempt to change the voting age would likely face strong opposition from political parties, civil society groups, and legal experts across the country.
