Gilgit-Baltistan to Become Another Sindh? PPP Leads Elections with 9 Seats So Far

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged as the leading party in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly elections, according to unofficial and early results. The party secured victory in 10 constituencies, putting it in a strong position in the region.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won six seats in the election. Independent candidates also performed well and secured seven seats in total, including two individuals supported by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) managed to win one seat.

Polling for all 24 seats of the assembly was completed peacefully. Strict security arrangements were in place across the region to ensure smooth voting and maintain law and order throughout the election process.

The results show a competitive political environment in Gilgit-Baltistan, with no single party achieving a clear overall majority. PPP’s performance has given it an advantage, but independent candidates are also expected to play an important role in the formation of the next government.

Political observers say that coalition-building will likely be necessary, as parties may need support from independents to form a stable government in the region. Discussions between political groups are expected in the coming days as the final picture becomes clearer.

Analysts believe the outcome reflects shifting political preferences in the region, with voters distributing support among multiple parties instead of giving a decisive mandate to one group. They also note that local issues and development concerns played a key role in voter decisions.

The election results have drawn attention nationwide, as Gilgit-Baltistan continues to hold political importance due to its strategic location and governance structure. Further developments are expected once the final official results are announced and the assembly formation process begins.
