Speculation is growing around a possible change in Pakistan’s cricket selection setup, with former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar being linked to a senior role at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Recent reports have claimed that Akhtar could be considered for the position of chief selector as the PCB reviews its cricketing structure following a difficult period for the national team.
One report published on September 28 claimed that Akhtar had been offered the role and had met PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad. However, these claims have not been independently confirmed by the PCB.
The speculation comes amid significant changes surrounding Pakistan cricket. The PCB made major alterations to the Test squad and coaching setup during the England tour, while reports of further changes to the selection committee have added to uncertainty around the team’s management structure.
Misbah-ul-Haq’s reported departure from the selection committee has also contributed to the speculation.
Meanwhile, reports earlier this month suggested that senior selector Aaqib Javed could be removed as part of a wider PCB reshuffle. However, Aaqib himself rejected reports of his resignation or removal, describing them as “fake news.”
For now, there is no official confirmation from the PCB that Shoaib Akhtar has been appointed, formally offered the chief selector position, or entered into confirmed negotiations for the role.
The reports therefore remain part of the ongoing speculation surrounding possible changes to Pakistan’s cricket administration.
