No Increase in Taxes on Solar Panels,Finance Minister

The Finance Minister has clarified that no new tax has been imposed on solar panels in the federal budget for 2026-27, dismissing concerns about additional costs for renewable energy users. According to officials, the growing adoption of solar energy across the country has played a significant role in reducing pressure on the national power grid and helping stabilize electricity prices for consumers.

During the budget briefing, authorities highlighted that encouraging solar energy remains part of the government’s broader strategy to address the energy crisis and promote alternative power sources. The clarification has come as a relief for households and businesses investing in solar solutions amid rising electricity costs.

At the same time, officials confirmed a proposed 5 percent tax on income generated through social media platforms and digital content creation, as part of efforts to broaden the tax base and bring more sectors into the formal economy. The move is aimed at improving revenue collection from the fast-growing digital economy.

The government also announced relief measures for freelancers and the IT sector to support digital exports and strengthen Pakistan’s technology industry. Officials emphasized that the focus of the new budget is more on improving tax enforcement, increasing compliance, and expanding documentation rather than introducing widespread new taxes on the general public.
