Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched a big new plan to boost Pakistan’s famous pink salt industry. The goal is to add more value to the salt, create thousands of jobs, and increase exports around the world.
The main part of this initiative is a new 110-acre Pink Salt Mineral Processing Zone near Quaidabad. It will have more than 200 industrial units, a Business Facilitation Centre, and a model retail outlet. Officials say the project could bring in about $150 million in investment and create nearly 10,000 new jobs.
Pakistan’s pink salt comes mainly from the Khewra Mine, which has the world’s second-largest deposit of this beautiful Himalayan salt. Right now, much of it is sold raw. The new scheme will help turn it into high-quality finished products like lamps, tiles, edible salt, and health items.
Under the Chief Minister Pink Salt Value Addition Financing Scheme, investors can get interest-free loans from Rs5 million to Rs50 million for modern machinery, processing, packaging, and branding. Applications are online at pinksalt.punjab.gov.pk.
Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of strong branding so that people everywhere will see “Made in Pakistan” on premium pink salt products.
