Pakistan’s national football team will take part in the FIFA ASEAN Cup for the first time in history. This marks a major milestone for the country’s football.
The inaugural tournament is organised by FIFA and will be held in Indonesia from late September to early October 2026. Pakistan is one of three invited guest teams from outside Southeast Asia. The team will compete in the top division alongside strong sides such as Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines.
Pakistan Football Federation President Syed Mohsen Gilani thanked FIFA President Gianni Infantino for the opportunity. He said it is the men’s team’s first-ever FIFA event after the women’s team played in the FIFA Series earlier this year. The competition will give players valuable experience against higher-ranked teams during an international window.
The tournament has two levels. The main FIFA ASEAN Cup is the higher tier, while a Challenge Cup will feature other regional teams. Pakistan’s participation is expected to help build confidence and raise the standard of the national side.
