Iran is expected to receive Chinese-made shoulder-fired air defence systems in the coming weeks, according to sources.
The deal involves between 300 and 400 man-portable systems, including models such as the QW-12 and FN-16. The agreement is valued at around $60 to $70 million. These portable systems are designed to protect against low-flying aircraft and drones.
Sources say the first shipment could arrive soon as Iran works to strengthen its short-range defences. The purchase is described as one of Tehran’s larger recent efforts to rebuild capabilities after recent regional fighting exposed weaknesses in protecting military sites and infrastructure.
The contract was reportedly arranged through a Hong Kong-based intermediary company. Deliveries were said to start from western China, though both China and Pakistan have rejected the reports. China’s Foreign Ministry called the claims “completely groundless,” while Pakistan’s military said any suggestion of its involvement was false.
The development has drawn attention because it points to closer military ties between Iran and China. Analysts note that portable systems can be moved quickly and used by small teams, offering more flexible protection for key locations.
