Govt Approves Rs13 Billion Relief Package for PTV Employees

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved a Rs13 billion supplementary grant for Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) to help it meet its expenses in the 2026-27 financial year.

The meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had asked for Rs20 billion, but the ECC approved a lower amount of Rs13 billion. The money will be given in four equal parts of Rs3.25 billion each quarter. It will cover salaries, allowances, utility bills and other basic running costs of the state broadcaster.

The committee also told the Ministry of Information to prepare a full financial sustainability plan for PTV and present it within two months. PTV has been facing losses and lower revenues in recent years, so the government wants a clear plan for its future.

In the same meeting, the ECC approved Rs27.62 billion in sovereign guarantees for the 69-kilometre Sialkot-Kharian Motorway project. It also allowed the rollover of Rs6.94 billion in viability gap funding. These steps will help the project reach financial close and move faster towards completion under a public-private partnership model.
