Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has warned that teachers linked to government schools with very poor academic results could lose their jobs. The warning comes after the identification of 2,200 government schools where the passing rate was 20 percent or lower in recent examinations.
Hayat said teachers responsible for consistently poor results would face direct action. He stated that the government would not conduct lengthy inquiries in such cases. Teachers whose students continue to perform poorly over three to five years could be removed from service.
The minister also said school heads with ninth grade results below 20 percent have been asked to explain their performance within three days. District education officers have started reviewing the performance of the affected schools.
The Punjab government is also planning steps to support students and improve results. Subject specialist School Teaching Interns will be placed in schools that need additional academic support. Around 25,000 STIs have already been deployed across the province.
At the same time, teachers who achieve strong results will be rewarded. Hayat said the aim is to improve teaching standards and make government schools more effective for students.
