“No Roads Closed in Islamabad, Containers Placed Only for Security:” Information Ministry

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected reports that major roads in Islamabad have been closed, saying containers placed at different locations are part of temporary security arrangements.

In a fact check issued on October 3, the ministry said the containers were placed as a precaution in line with directions from the Islamabad High Court. It said the measures were intended to protect citizens, public property, sensitive installations and lawful movement.

The clarification came amid preparations for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s planned October 4 march towards Islamabad. Reports had described the presence of containers as road blockades and said they could affect movement in the capital.

The ministry maintained that roads remained open and said the security measures were linked to concerns over public order and previous incidents of violence. It also criticised an Al Jazeera report for presenting the arrangements as road closures without what it called the full security and judicial context.
