Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has called for greater focus on locally made products, saying Pakistan can learn from Iran’s experience in developing domestic industries despite economic sanctions.
Speaking at a Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry event on Friday, Naqvi said his recent visits to Iran changed his view of the country’s industrial capacity. He noted that Iran produces goods for several sectors, including construction and automobiles, despite facing restrictions.
Naqvi said Pakistan should also promote “Made in Pakistan” products while working to increase exports. He argued that producing more goods locally could reduce dependence on imports and help improve the country’s economic position.
The minister also stressed the need for higher exports and urged the business community to work with the government on economic reforms. He said increasing exports through different measures was necessary to address economic challenges.
Naqvi also mentioned the proposed business passport, which is being developed to help Pakistani businesspeople facing visa difficulties during international travel.
