Lahore Police have arrested a British national accused of robbing a private bank near Bhatta Chowk in the city’s South Cantt area. Police said the suspect was traced and arrested within about three hours of the robbery with the help of Safe City cameras.
According to DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran, the suspect, identified as Subhan Ali, entered the bank at around 9:19am and remained inside for about nine minutes. Police said he allegedly took Rs726,000 in cash and two weapons belonging to security guards.
During the investigation, the suspect reportedly said he had been influenced by Netflix shows and believed a bank robbery could be carried out in Lahore. Police also said he had financial problems after spending about £1,200 he brought from Britain.
The suspect arrived in Pakistan on September 16 and had previously worked as a taxi driver in Scotland. Police recovered Rs426,000, two pistols, a 12-bore rifle and the Honda Civic allegedly used in the robbery. Investigators are also examining how the suspect obtained the weapons.
