Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are holding a high-level meeting in Riyadh today under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, as the three countries review regional developments and their ongoing cooperation.
The meeting is being held through the Strategic Political and Defence Committee established under the trilateral agreement. Pakistan is represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. Saudi and Turkish foreign and defence ministers, along with their military chiefs, are also participating.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the discussions will cover the latest developments in the region and the progress of cooperation under the Makkah Agreement. The Turkish Foreign Ministry has also said that the meeting will address recent regional developments and efforts to further institutionalise the alliance.
The meeting comes amid heightened security concerns in the region, including recent Houthi attacks affecting Saudi Arabia. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had earlier described the Riyadh gathering as an emergency meeting, with the situation involving Saudi Arabia expected to be among the issues discussed.
The Riyadh talks mark another step in implementing the trilateral defence framework and expanding coordination between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye on regional security and related matters.
