A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the joint establishment of three electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Karachi and its connecting highways has been signed by Shell Pakistan Limited (SPL) and K-Electric Limited (KE).
According to a statement released on Friday, ‘Shell Defence Filling Station’ at Khayaban-e-Bahria, ‘Askari Filling Station’ at Gulshan Town and ‘Mardan Filling Station’ at Gadap Town are the locations selected for the installation of 50KWH rapid chargers.
“SPL and KE will explore the opportunity of additional sites over the next 3 to 5 years and strategically expand the EV charging network,” the statement read. “While SPL will participate in the deployment, site preparation, installation and management of charging station equipment, KE will ensure grid enhancement.”
Taha Magrabi, General Manager Retail of Shell Pakistan Limited stated at the MoU signing ceremony: “The Government of Pakistan approved the EV policy to help tackle the effects of climate change and give its people affordable transport. Together with KE, SPL plays a key role in this sector and is keen to help the EV strategy and its goals with our partnership.”
“As the world moves towards cleaner modes of transport, KE seeks to enable this shift by adding to the infrastructure that will support the introduction of EVs across Karachi and Pakistan,” said K-Electric Chief Strategy Officer Naz Khan. With the Government of Pakistan announcing a plan to be electric by 2030 for 30pc of all vehicles on the local market, KE with Shell, looks forward to helping our customers use EVs and contribute to long-term environmental sustainability.
