Humaira Akhtar, a master’s degree holder in Urdu, is a perfect illustration of the saying: “with hard work and dedication, anything is possible”. She is an inhabitant of Kharotabad, Balochistan where women are accustomed to staying within the boundaries of their homes.
Humaira had the desire to achieve success in her life. She was determined and persuaded her parents to let her do something on her own. She got herself enrolled in a 6-months Computer Operator, Competency-Based Training (CBT) course being run by the TVET Sector Support Programme at Human Resource Development Center (HRDC) society.
Her competency and dedication paid off with a regular job as an education supervisor in an Afghan Refugees Project in Quetta. Each day of on-the-job training at Bank Alfalah brought her confidence and enhanced her communication skills. Humaira came to know about Suno FM 96 (Balochistan) had an open vacancy for a female RJ, she applied for the position and got selected. Now she is doing a live radio show on FM 96 and inspiring many other girls like her.
“I wanted to empower myself and fought for my rights. I convinced my parents to let me do something. If you are resolute, do not listen to other people. Focus on what your heart is seeking for”.
Humaira is the beneficiary of the TVET Sector Support Programme, which is working with NAVTTC, provincial TEVTAs, TVET bodies and PVTC since 2011 for bringing reforms to the TVET Sector. The second phase of the programme has funding of 67.5 mn euros for the implementation of reforms in the TVET sector of Pakistan on a national, provincial and regional level. The Programme is funded by the European Union, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Royal Norwegian Embassy. In the second phase of its implementation, the programme is supporting competency-based training of 88,300 men and women on the indigenous and industry-demand-driven trades. The Programme has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is being implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
Humaira Akhtar is a role model for passionate young girls. She has faith that if you have the right skillset demanded in the modern world, you can change the course of your life and the people around you.
Humaira’s urge to do something self-sufficiently and help others prompted her to establish her career and be independent.
