From Islamabad to Istanbul, a train operation has been developed between Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey. After a nine-year hiatus, a transnational freight train linking the South Asian nation to Turkey via neighboring Iran has resumed operation.
The train made its first journey in 2009, with the aim of enhancing trade and cooperation between the three countries.
However, after an exchange of 14 freight trains between Turkey and Pakistan, the service was suspended in late 2011 due to logistical problems, pending infrastructure upgrades, and security concerns.
While announcing the revival of the cargo service, Abdul Razak Dawood, advisor to the prime minister for commerce and investment said the “Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad” train would complete the one-way trip in about 12 days. He added that it would be capable of carrying 750 metric tons of commercial cargo.
