Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered the concerned authorities to transform Charna Island into a national marine park in order to protect it from one of the world’s most serious environmental threats.
The federal government has agreed to designate Charna Island as a National Marine Park in order to offset the negative effects of climate change. Malik Amin Aslam, the PM’s climate change aide, traveled to the island this week on the premier’s orders.
Amin, who has submitted a report to the Prime Minister on the subject, is currently in the country’s southwestern region. After the brief walk, the special assistant will go over the situation in detail with Khan.
The corals on Charna Island, a remote, uninhabited island with a 4-kilometer coastline in the Arabian Sea between the provinces of Balochistan and Sindh, are spectacular. Coral bleaching is currently occurring in the abandoned field.
Under the Darwin Initiative Project, marine biologists discovered at least 55 species of coral reefs in the deep waters of the island.
Corals are delicate living creatures, and coral bleaching, which occurs as a result of environmental changes and human activity, turns them entirely white. After that, it began to starve and finally died as a result of the bleaching.
Following the establishment of Pakistan’s first Marine Protected Area, Astola Island, WWF-Pakistan has been working to transform the island into a national marine park.
