Pakistan’s cricket team has climbed to the second spot in the ICC ODI rankings, surpassing India in the latest annual update. The Green Shirts have accumulated 116 points, closely trailing behind Australia, who currently lead with 118 points.
The ICC’s annual rankings take into account all completed series since May 2020, with earlier series receiving a 50 percent weightage and subsequent series weighted at 100 percent.
This update works in favor of Pakistan, as they are no longer heavily impacted by their 4-0 away series loss in England and their 3-0 series defeat against England in 2021, which now carry reduced weightage when calculating ranking points.
India’s recent 2-1 defeat to Australia has contributed to Pakistan surpassing them by just a single point to claim the second position.
This news brings both pride and disappointment for Pakistan. They had briefly claimed the number one spot in the ICC ODI rankings, but their inability to achieve a clean sweep against New Zealand led to a decline in their ranking once again.
