Pakistan Releases 198 Indian Fishermen

On Thursday, Pakistani authorities released 198 Indian fishermen who were detained in Pakistan’s waters in the Arabian Sea. This act was done as a goodwill gesture. Sadly, two of the original 200 fishermen had passed away due to illness while in detention, but the remaining 198 were set free.

To help them return to India, the released fishermen boarded a train to Lahore, where they will continue their journey. More batches of detained Indian fishermen are scheduled for release in June and July.

It is common for impoverished fishermen from both Pakistan and India to unintentionally enter each other’s territories, leading to their apprehension by maritime security forces. To ensure the safe return of the Indian fishermen, the Edhi Foundation organized their train travel to Lahore. Once they reach Lahore, they will be handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency, which will oversee their transportation to the Wagah border, facilitating their return to India.
