On Wednesday morning, Pakistani mountaineer Sirbaz Khan reached the summit of Everest at 8,848 meters. Khan now has seven more 8,000m peaks to conquer before completing his 14×8,000ers range and becoming the first Pakistani to accomplish the feat.
Sirbaz, a 32-year-old climber from Aliabad, Hunza, started his professional career in 2016 and is regarded as a gifted and focused climber.
Sirbaz, along with Mohammad Abdul Joshi, became the first Pakistanis to summit Annapurna (8,091m) last month, dedicating his achievement to the late Mohammad Ali Sadpara.
Sirbaz became the first Pakistani to summit Mount Lhotse in Nepal, the world’s fourth-highest mountain at 8,516 meters, without using supplemental oxygen in 2019. K2, Nanga Parbat, Wide Peak, and Manaslu are among his other 8,000m achievements.
Veteran Pakistani mountaineer Nazir Sabir congratulated the two climbers on their successful summit attempts. “I congratulate Shehroze and Sirbaz on their excellent accomplishments. “From here, I wish them continued success,” he said. He went on to say that the success of these young climbers, as well as the recent interest in climbing, bodes well for the country’s mountaineering.
