Most Swat Chairlift Ropes Breakage Cause Several Incidents

Swat currently has the highest number of chairlifts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Dozens of people have also lost their lives in the incidents of chairlift ropes breaking.

With the floods of 2010 and 2022, the bridges across the Swat River and various major rivers were washed away, after which local people installed chairlifts in place of these bridges for transportation. There have been dozens of fatalities and injuries due to incidents. Five students fell into the river and died when the chairlift rope broke near Kalam.

A mother and a five-month-old baby in her lap were killed when a dolly overturned in northern Bahrain, while three people drowned in the Swat River when the rope of a dolly broke in Lykot.

Most of the chairlifts on the Swat River are powered by motor car engines but do not take care of their maintenance.
