Lieutenant General Munir Afsar has officially become the Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) with the approval of the federal cabinet. This decision came after the interior ministry’s selection committee considered three candidates.
General Afsar, a high-ranking military officer, became a three-star general in October 2022. He has a lot of experience in IT and has worked in Pakistan’s Army and the United Nations. He also has impressive academic qualifications, including a master’s degree in Public Policy and National Security Management, and he’s currently working towards a PhD in Remote Sensing at NUST Islamabad, where he’s focusing on using remote sensing and artificial intelligence to detect plant diseases.
Additionally, General Afsar has received a military award for his outstanding contributions. One of his notable achievements was developing a computer application to help with flood recovery during the 2010 floods in Pakistan.
Throughout his career, he’s held important positions, like being in charge of the DG Command, Control, Communication, Computers, and Intelligence (C41) Directorate and leading the Pakistan Army Cyber Command. All of this makes him a highly qualified and accomplished choice for the NADRA Chairman role.
