The Punjab police agency has introduced a new smartphone to track stolen cellphones and restrict their resale.

In partnership with the Punjab Information Technology Board, the Capital City Police Lahore created the e-Gadget Monitoring System application (PITB).It is available for download on both the Google Playstore and the Apple App Store.Traders of mobile phones will be able to book via the e-Gadget app. Shop owners will enter each unit’s IMEI number into the app to generate a list of stolen devices.

If a phone is stolen, the app will send the notification to the police, who will file a FIR right away.

According to a law enforcement official, seized phones are quickly sold and acquired in the market because their data is not visible online.
