After 22 years, PIA flight lands in Damascus and receives a water cannon salute in Syria

The Syrian state media reported that Pakistan’s first flight to Syria in more than two decades had landed in Damascus.

The PIA airline arrived at Karachi’s Damascus International Airport and reported a return of more than 20 years’ air traffic between the two countries, according to sources.

The agency said the flight carried a delegation of the Pakistani airline, led by Minister of Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan and 286 passengers, which began to operate flights between Karakhi, Lahore and Islamabad and Damascus.

A few days ago, the flight was the first after a 20-year hiatus and the Syrian transport minister Zouheir Khzeim described it as an important step towards establishing economic relations between his country and Pakistan. SANA quoted the air transport minister in Pakistan as saying that this flight was the first step to be taken by others in order to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in civil aviation.
