An 83-year-old Egyptian woman has inspired millions by earning her PhD in Sociology. Amal Ismail Metwally Abdo received her doctorate from Mansoura University on July 5, 2026. Her success shows that it is never too late to learn and achieve big dreams.
Amal’s journey is remarkable. She started her higher education later in life. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she earned a master’s in Sociology with excellent grades in 2023. She then began her PhD studies at the Faculty of Arts. Her thesis, titled “Active Aging and Its Relationship to Some Sociological Variables: A Study of Selected Cases at Mansoura University,” focuses on healthy aging and social factors.
Dakahlia Governor Major General Tariq Marzouq met Amal to honor her achievement. Her story has been widely celebrated in Egypt and beyond as a symbol of determination and lifelong learning.
