Agreement Finalized with Chinese Company to Manufacture Electric Vehicles in Pakistan

According to sources, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy, Hammad Azhar, said on Thursday that the country is advancing toward electrification of public transportation as a result of the federal government’s December approval of an electric vehicle policy.

Federal Minister Hammad Azhar announced on Twitter that under the new arrangement, BYD, the world’s largest electric bus maker, will collaborate with a Pakistani company to build electric vehicles in Pakistan.

“BYD, the world’s largest electric bus manufacturer, has partnered with Sapphire Group to expand market development and manufacturing of electric cars in Pakistan,” Hammad Azhar tweeted.

Pakistan’s first Electric Vehicle Policy was approved by the federal cabinet on December 22.

Electricity would be used to power motorbikes and automobiles, and Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Units would be developed around the country.
