AlKaram Textile Gets 6-Year Export Order for US Brand Gap Inc.

Pakistan’s leading player in the textile industry, AlKaram Textile Limited, has been awarded an order for a period of six years by the renowned American brand Gap Inc.

The company has signed a license for home textiles with Gap Inc. for all of North America and Mexico for six years, according to AlKaram Textile Limited’s Managing Director, Fawad Anwar.

The company will be Pakistan’s first home textile company to enter foreign markets in the brand licensing space. It is possible that the project will open doors for the same companies in the developed markets, as well as other producers of textiles based in Pakistan.

Since these orders would receive both exports and handsome income inflows, the expansion of the local value chains could benefit from the fulfilment of such an order, including job generation and local business.

AlKaram Textile Mills, headquartered in Karachi, has 10,000 workers across all its branches and generates revenue of $337.26 million annually.

After having achieved almost 100 percent installed output level, Pakistan’s textile industry is undergoing a historic phase of expansion. Textile manufacturers accept orders from different international markets and set up new production units and provide new employment at the local level.
