“In 2004, Arfa Karim, when she was only nine years old, became famous by getting her name in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional” (MCP).

She was a bright, well-behaved, and energetic girl. She was so imaginative that she composed her first poem when she was five years old. Sufi poetry by Allama Iqbal and Baba Bulleh Shah helped her widen her horizons and visions.

She has a latent ability to be curious about everything in her environment. When she saw a desktop pc at school, her inner interest aroused, and she fantasized about exploring it. She persuaded her father to purchase that high-end item for her.

When she got it, she researched many aspects of it. She grabbed the fundamentals. Her father enrolled her in a computer training program, but they refused to instruct her because of her small size.

The instructor asked Arfa to get the MCP Certificate . She studied till the wee hours of the night to pass the exam.

And when she did, she was asked to see Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft Cooperation. Bill Gates was impressed in less than 10 minutes. She expressed her desire to establish a Digicon Valley in Pakistan.

She was a girl with many skills. She received her pilot’s license on August 2, 2005, after completing three trials in Dubai. Her mind-blowing and overwhelming brilliance astounded everyone.

Arfa was one of five thousand people from all over the world invited to attend a Developer Conference in Barcelona in 2006, since she was such a genius with Pakistani nationality.

She was also the brand ambassador to Pakistan Telecommunication Company’s EVO 3G wireless Broadband Service.

In the year 2012, Arfa died at sixteen. She was in her second year of A-level studies at the time. She had gone into cardiac arrest. Following an epileptic fit, she suffered a heart attack.

On January 9, 2012, Bill Gates, the chairperson of Microsoft, contacted Arfa’s doctors and requested that they look into every possible way to save her life. Bill Gates also sought the help of a foreign panel of doctors, who communicated with Arfa’s doctor via teleconference.

This panel was really helpful in identifying and treating her disease. She couldn’t travel to another country for treatment because she was on a ventilator and in a critical state. Bill Gates also covers all of her medical costs.

She improved and her health improved as certain regions of her brain healed, but all of her efforts were futile when she died on January 14th, at 16.

In Lahore, she already has a technological park named after her. Pakistan’s IT industry is also mourning her death.
