According to Iranian media reports, former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was buried at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad alongside four members of his family.
Reports published by ISNA said the burial took place on Friday morning after funeral ceremonies were reportedly held in Tehran, Qom, Karbala, Najaf, and Mashhad. The reports stated that large numbers of mourners attended the ceremonies held in different cities.
According to the same reports, Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, did not attend any of the funeral events. However, his brothers, Mostafa, Meysam, and Masoud, were reportedly present during the ceremonies.
The reports also claimed that Mostafa Khamenei led the funeral prayer before the burial took place. Iranian media described the ceremony as the final stage of the funeral arrangements after several days of mourning events.
The reports further stated that Ali Khamenei passed away four months earlier during the first day of military attacks involving the United States and Israel. These claims have been widely circulated by the cited media outlets.
The reported funeral ceremonies attracted significant attention both inside and outside Iran, with observers closely following the developments. International media and officials have continued to monitor the situation because of its political and regional significance.
