China Overtakes Japan as World’s Top Car Exporter

China has surpassed Japan to become the world’s largest car exporter in the first quarter of the year. According to China’s General Administration of Customs, China exported 1.07 million vehicles during this period, a significant increase of 58% compared to the first quarter of the previous year.

In contrast, Japan’s vehicle exports reached 954,185, showing a modest 6% growth. In 2022, China exported 3.2 million vehicles, surpassing Germany, with electric cars and sales to Russia contributing to this achievement. The rise of China’s motor industry has been supported by the transition towards electric vehicles.

Furthermore, exports of new energy vehicles, including electric cars, have witnessed a remarkable growth of over 90% in the first quarter compared to the previous year.
