China Unveils Robots That Can Pick 4,800 kg of Grapes in 8 Hours

Who says harvesting grapes has to be done by hand?

Meet a grape-picking robot developed by a Hong Kong-based company, showcased at the 2026 Yangling Agricultural Hi-Tech Fair in China.

Already deployed in Turpan, Xinjiang, the robot can harvest up to 4,800 kg of grapes in eight hours, according to the company’s designer. That’s around 6–10 times the efficiency of manual harvesting, helping farmers cope with labour shortages during the busy harvest season.

How does it work? AI vision, deep learning and multiple sensors help the robot identify grape clusters by colour, size and ripeness. Its robotic arm then picks the fruit with precision.

And it’s not just a fairground demonstration. The company reported in August that two units were already operating in Xinjiang. The robot can also support crop spraying, while its battery can power up to 12 hours of operation, according to the company.

Would you trust a robot to pick your grapes?
