Chinese Drone Tech to Transform Agriculture in Pakistan

A major Chinese power company, PowerChina, has highlighted how smart agriculture combined with low-altitude drone technology could revolutionize farming in Pakistan.

In a statement on November 14, the company stressed the importance of using advanced drones to modernize farming and improve efficiency. PowerChina expressed its commitment to promoting sustainable and modern farming practices in Pakistan.

In China, drones equipped with specialized cameras analyze soil fertility, moisture, and other factors. This data, processed with artificial intelligence, helps farmers take precise actions, boosting productivity while cutting costs and reducing environmental damage.

To bring these innovations to Pakistan, Chinese companies are introducing solutions like precision farming, smart irrigation, and data analysis. Earlier this year, the Pakistan-China Joint Lab for Artificial Intelligence and Smart Agriculture was launched at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. This initiative aims to enhance productivity, particularly in Punjab, which produces 76% of Pakistan’s annual grain.

Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University, noted that drone technology could benefit Punjab’s 25,000 villages by improving productivity and lowering costs. However, high costs and financial challenges remain barriers to widespread adoption.

Dr. Muhammad Adnan of LTEC International suggested solutions like government subsidies, public-private partnerships, local drone manufacturing, and farmer training programs to make drones more accessible.

With proper investments and collaborations, Chinese drone technology could lead to a more efficient and sustainable agricultural sector in Pakistan.
