Chinese University Offering Fully Funded Scholarships for Pakistani Students

Nanjing University of Information Sciences and Technology (NUIST) is offering fully funded scholarships in Climate Change and Environmental Governance to Pakistani students. Professor Dr. Tong Jiang of NUIST confirmed this news, stating that the scholarships aim to enhance research capacity in combating the climate crisis. NUIST has signed an MoU with NUST and is expanding research collaboration with other universities in Pakistan, such as Quaid-e-Azam University, COMSATS University Islamabad, and the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The focus of the project in Pakistan is addressing water shortage and climate change tipping points. Professor Jiang highlighted the impact of heavy floods, high temperatures, and drought in the country. The research aims to overcome these challenges and reduce water shortage, considering the crucial role of water in Pakistan’s agricultural-based economy.

Regarding air pollution and smog problems, Professor Jiang identified industrial emissions, vehicular emissions, domestic emissions, construction-related dust emissions, smoke from brick kilns, and agricultural waste burning as major causes. Solutions proposed include relocating industries away from cities, transitioning to renewable energy, improving public transportation, increasing tree plantation, and better management of livestock and waste in urban areas.
