CM Punjab Unveils ‘Green Wheels Program’ to Provide E-Bikes and E- Ricshaws on Interest Free Installments

The ‘Green Wheels’ program, initiated by the Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, is a comprehensive effort to bring about a significant transformation in transportation within the province.

The key aspect of this initiative involves making 10,000 electric bikes and rickshaws accessible to the public under favorable terms, all provided without any interest.

The program is designed with specific allocations, such as dedicating 2,000 electric three-wheeler bikes for special individuals, another 2,000 for government employees, and an additional 2,000 for women in both government and private sectors – all of which come with the benefit of being interest-free.

Beyond promoting sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transport, the ‘Green Wheels’ initiative also marks a noteworthy shift in government procurement practices.

Notably, there is now a ban on acquiring fuel motorcycles, and government departments are committed to exclusively procuring electric bikes. This strategic move aligns with global trends focusing on sustainable transportation solutions.

The program reflects a multifaceted approach, addressing both public accessibility to electric vehicles and the government’s commitment to adopting environmentally friendly options.
