US President Donald Trump has unveiled a special limited-edition passport to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence in 2026. The new design, called the “Patriot Passport,” features Trump’s portrait, his signature in gold, and artwork inspired by the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It also includes the words “United States of America 250.”
The passport shows Trump’s image on the inside cover, placed over text from the Declaration of Independence and the American flag. Some versions include the message “Welcome, but be good!” This makes Trump the first sitting US president to appear on an American passport.
The limited-edition passports will be available starting July 6 through in-person appointments at the Washington Passport Agency. Only a small number will be issued. People applying online or at other locations will receive the regular passport design.
The White House described it as a way for Americans to celebrate the nation’s big birthday. However, the idea has sparked debate. Some people see it as a patriotic tribute, while others worry it mixes personal branding with a national symbol.
The special passport keeps all standard security features while adding unique patriotic artwork.
