Dubai-Based Pakistani Restaurant Ravi Teams up with Adidas for a Sneaker Collaboration

In an unexpected mix of sneaker lovers in the United Arab Emirates “super excited”, international sports retailer Adidas has announced a limited edition shoe dedicated to Dubai’s iconic Pakistani restaurant Ravi.

The instantly recognizable Adidas Originals Superstar sneakers have been customized to create ‘Superstar Ravi’ in white and green colourways from the Dubai Pocket Institution. The color scheme of the Special Edition Superstar Ravi is reminiscent of the owner’s Pakistani heritage.

It features a custom insole with a hand-drawn map design depicting the meaning of the name Ravi, which means ‘river’ and is found in north-eastern Pakistan.

Restaurant Ravi was founded by Chaudary Abdul Hameed in Dubai in 1978 as a family business and served as a gathering place for local and diaspora families, friends and creative communities to come together.

Today, the culinary destination is a must-see for tourists, locals, ex-pats and celebrities, including Snoop Dogg, Bollywood stars, world-famous cricketers, One Republic and Craig David. “My family worked hard to get Ravi to where he is now; it has become more than just a restaurant with staff and customers.

It has become a home for many to grow up in,” Chaudary Abdul Hameed, Founder of Ravi. “To say that Ravi had humble beginnings and now represents Dubai as a key city with Adidas is a milestone to celebrate,” he added. Currently, the restaurant is run by Chaudary’s sons: Waqar, Waseem and Waheed Abdul Hameed.

The collaboration with Ravi hopes to celebrate community-focused culinary hotspots in cities worldwide as part of the brand’s recently launched “delectable” campaign. The Delicious campaign works directly with 11 pioneering restaurant owners.

Featuring 11 restaurants in 11 cities, the series features 11 food-inspired silhouettes, all driven by the mantra: real food, real people, and new sneakers. The design of the shoes tells the story of every restaurant.

It recognizes places and people that play an integral role in the fabric of their communities. The limited-edition shoes will be available online and in select stores in Dubai from June 23, Adidas said.
