Due to submarine cable fault in Pakistan, internet speeds have slowed

The submarine cable has a defect. The internet speed in Pakistan was interrupted on Tuesday, and the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) began to redirect traffic to other lines.

The SEA-ME-WE 4 (South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 4) submarine communications cable system connects Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Italy, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and France.

According to industry insiders, an underwater cable defect has impacted internet performance in the country, causing issues for customers during peak hours.

The repair work on SEA-ME-WE 4 is expected to be finished in January 2022, according to sources. In the meantime, PTCL published a statement stating that “alternative bandwidth” had been arranged.
