E-Challan Declared Illegal by Lahore’s High Court

On Wednesday, it was decided by the Lahore High Court (LHC) that the e-ticketing forms provided by the Safe Cities Authority cameras should be considered prohibited.

The highest court in the province agreed to accept the demands of advocate Saleem Sheikh for the provision of e-ticketing challans to motorists who violate the rules of traffic.

The written verdict of eight pages was being read by the LHC’s Justice Tariq Saleem, which had been postponed earlier.

As per the rules and regulations, one could not get E-challans before the changes in the constitution as the traffic police were not permitted to issue ticket e-challans under the Provincial Vehicles Ordinance 1965.

According to the rules, the breakers of the rules of traffic would be fined a challan at that very moment, but that the authorities could not impose fines digitally in the form of e-challans.

The decision of the court had been finalised on March 28 of the previous year.

Throughout the past sessions, the judge has objected to the validity of e-challans imposed on the owner of the vehicle for the breaking of traffic rules by the driver.
