E-gates to be Installed at karachi, Lahore, Islamabad Airports

Pakistan is currently in talks with a company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to implement electronic gates (e-gates) at major airports in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

The primary objective of this initiative is to introduce self-immigration services, a feature commonly found in developed countries, with the aim of expediting and streamlining the immigration process for passengers.

The proposed e-gates would function similarly to those already in place at airports such as Birmingham, Edinburgh, and Dubai. Passengers possessing electronic passports (e-passports) would benefit from these gates, allowing them to bypass traditional queues and smoothly navigate through automated self-service immigration barriers.

The overarching goal of introducing e-gates is to enhance the efficiency of operational activities at airports. By facilitating a quicker and more convenient immigration process, the initiative aligns with global standards observed in advanced aviation hubs.

As discussions unfold, there is a consideration for potential outsourcing arrangements, indicating that external expertise may be leveraged for the implementation and management of the e-gate system. This strategic move is part of broader efforts to modernize and improve the overall airport experience for travelers in Pakistan.

The introduction of e-gates at major Pakistani airports represents a step towards embracing advanced technology to enhance the efficiency of immigration procedures, providing a smoother and more expedited process for passengers with e-passports.
