Egypt Demands Referee’s Removal After World Cup Defeat to Argentina

Egypt national football team has submitted an official complaint to FIFA, requesting an investigation into the refereeing of its dramatic 3-2 FIFA World Cup defeat against Argentina national football team.

According to the Egyptian Football Association, referee François Letexier and his officiating team made several serious mistakes during the match. The federation claimed that some key decisions, including the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), were inconsistent and may have affected the final result.

Egypt said one of its goals was wrongly disallowed, while a penalty appeal was not awarded despite the team’s belief that it should have been reviewed. The federation also questioned the sequence of play that led to Argentina’s winning goal, saying those moments deserve a detailed review by FIFA.

In its complaint, the Egyptian Football Association stated that it is using all available official channels to protect the rights of the national team. It also said that fair officiating is essential for maintaining the credibility and integrity of major international tournaments.

The World Cup match attracted worldwide attention and sparked widespread discussion among football fans and experts. Several refereeing decisions became a major topic of debate on social media and sports platforms after the final whistle.

FIFA has not yet announced any decision regarding the complaint. Football supporters and analysts are now waiting to see whether the governing body will open a formal review of the match.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of accurate refereeing and consistent use of VAR in ensuring fairness during high-profile international football competitions.
