Electricity Tariff Hiked by Rs. 1.19 Per Unit Across Pakistan

NEPRA has announced changes to electricity tariffs under different adjustment mechanisms, resulting in both a price increase and a reduction for consumers across Pakistan.

According to the latest decision, electricity rates have been increased by Rs. 1.19 per unit under the fuel cost adjustment for April 2026. This additional charge will be included in electricity bills issued in June. Fuel cost adjustments are regularly applied to reflect changes in the cost of fuel used for power generation.

However, NEPRA has also approved a reduction of Rs. 1.98 per unit under the quarterly tariff adjustment. This relief will be available to consumers over the next three months and is expected to lower overall electricity costs for millions of users.

Officials said the fuel adjustment increase will apply to most electricity consumers nationwide. However, certain categories of consumers, including lifeline users, prepaid electricity customers, and electric vehicle charging stations, will not be affected by this additional charge.

The quarterly reduction is expected to provide significant financial relief and reduce the burden of electricity expenses on households and businesses. Authorities estimate that the adjustment will save consumers billions of rupees during the relief period.

NEPRA stated that these adjustments are part of the regular regulatory process designed to ensure that electricity prices accurately reflect changes in generation costs while also passing on savings to consumers when possible.

Energy experts note that fuel cost and quarterly adjustments are commonly used to manage fluctuations in the power sector. These mechanisms help maintain balance between operational costs and consumer interests.

The latest revisions reflect ongoing efforts to manage changing fuel prices while providing temporary relief to electricity users and supporting affordability in the country’s energy sector.
