Electronic Voting Machines Not Required in Pakistan- Election Commission

The ECP- Election Commission of Pakistan has recently informed the federal government about the reservations of EVMs- electronic voting machines in spite of raising doubts regarding the effectiveness of the machines.

According to sources, the member of ECP has requested about the commission on an alternative voting arrangements in an event where it was briefed that EVMs and the e-voting system failed as RTS did in 2018 elections.

The representatives of ECP has claimed that their production as well as the maintenance costs of EVMs would also be huge burden on the national budget as it would become very costly and replacing manual voting with an automated voting in the general elections would also cost at least $6.5 billion.
