Employees Help Turn Thousands Of Plastic Bottles into T-shirts in Major Recycling Drive in Dubai

Did you know that you can transform your old plastic bottles into trendy T-shirts? Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has achieved this feat by recycling around 221,900 plastic bottles and aluminum cans, creating over 11,600 fashionable T-shirts and other eco-friendly products.

The process begins with sorting and removing bottle caps and labels. After thoroughly cleaning them, the plastic bottles undergo shredding, transforming them into small flakes. Through the application of high pressure, these flakes melt and become a durable polyester yarn. This yarn serves as the foundation for crafting comfortable and fashionable T-shirts, dresses, leggings, and more.

Moreover, Dewa’s commitment to environmental sustainability extends beyond recycling. Their aspiration is to become a leading sustainable corporation, striving to achieve Net Zero by 2050. Furthermore, they facilitate recycling efforts by providing smart recycling machines and offering incentives to employees, actively encouraging their participation. By taking concrete actions, they transform waste into practical solutions, effectively addressing environmental challenges.

Additionally, Dewa places great emphasis on raising awareness among both employees and customers during the Year of Sustainability. Their aim is to promote eco-conscious practices and conserve natural resources. Through their circular economy strategy and alignment with Dubai’s Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021-2041, Dewa fosters innovation in waste management, recycling, and waste-to-energy conversion. These efforts play a pivotal role in shaping a greener future and creating a cleaner environment for everyone.
