Expired CNIC? PTA Warns Your SIM Could Be Blocked Without an Update

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has started a public awareness campaign asking mobile phone users to renew expired, cancelled, or inactive CNICs to avoid any interruption in their mobile services.

According to the PTA, SIM cards registered with invalid or outdated CNICs may be suspended or blocked under existing regulations. The authority has advised users to renew their identity cards as soon as possible and update the new information with their mobile network operators.

Officials said keeping identity records up to date is important for maintaining uninterrupted mobile services. Customers who fail to update their records after renewing their CNICs could face restrictions on SIMs that are linked to expired or inactive identity documents.

The PTA emphasized that only SIM cards registered against valid and verifiable identity documents will remain active. The campaign is part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to improve the security of Pakistan’s telecommunications network and ensure that mobile connections are registered with accurate information.

Authorities explained that updated customer records help prevent the misuse of mobile services through fake, expired, or inactive identities. They believe the initiative will strengthen digital security and improve the overall verification system used by mobile operators.

Mobile users have been encouraged to check the status of their CNICs and complete the renewal process if necessary. After receiving a renewed identity card, customers should also contact their mobile service providers to update their registration details.

The PTA said the campaign is intended to create awareness among the public and encourage timely compliance with regulatory requirements.

Officials added that maintaining accurate identity records will help protect mobile users, strengthen national digital security, and ensure reliable telecommunications services for everyone across the country.
