Farmers of Punjab pay their Water bills digitally with E-Abiana

The PITB- Punjab Information Technology Board has announced on Wednesday that E-Abiana, the bill printing has now begun in Layyah (city in Punjab) that is finally replacing the system that was decades-old and a traditional manual billing process.

However, PITB tweeted regarding this as: “The digitized bill ensures increased transparency & efficiency. Farmers will be able to pay Abiana via e-Pay Punjab, JazzCash, EasyPaisa, and Over the Counter (OTC) in banks.”

E-Abiana is formed with collaboration between the Punjab Information Technology Board – PITB and Punjab irrigation department and for the streamlining and automation of revenue collection system of the water.

This system was initially introduced in the Sheikhpura, Khanewal, Kasur, and Layyah, and it was set as a pilot program, but now this e-pay solution is forecasted and planned to roll out across Punjab.

The objective of E-Abiana is to ensure the overall transparency and the ways that increase the revenues by providing farmers an easy pay option for their water bills.

Moreover, the implementation of such system is needed that must have similar solutions in the other parts of Pakistan as to synchronize the overall development specially the agricultural progress.
