FBR Discovers 29,000 Fake Invoices of Retailers

During the month of January, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) discovered 29,000 fake invoices issued by Tier-1 retailers with Point of Sale (POS) integration.

Tier-1 Retailers that are integrated with the POS System issued approximately 37 million invoices in January 2021, up from 33 million in December 2021, indicating a consistent growth of 4 million. Within a month, the number of consumers who successfully confirmed their invoices increased from 10,000 to 27,000.

However, FBR admitted that “29,000 invoices issued by Tier-1 Retailers could not be verified and are presumably fake.”

The second computerized ballot will be held at FBR Headquarters in Islamabad on February 15th. Further, the board of directors stated that it is reassuring to see that the general public is enthusiastic about participating in the exercise.

In the first computerized ballot, which was held on January 15, 2022, FBR presented rewards of Rs. 53 million to the lucky 1007 winners. Following the due diligence and required verification, about 800 winners received prize money into their accounts. However, as per the announcement, 207 winners were unable to get their prize money.
